America's role in the Cold War
The Overall Goal During the Cold War Americans sought to contain communism. From the End of World
War Two to the Fall of the Berlin Wall in the 1980's America's role was to promote Democracy around the world. The United States increased it's defense system, controlled the spread of communism, and sought to better it's citizens through improving Civil Rights, Accomplish International Goals, and bettering American Trade at the heart of it's industrial age. |
The Domino Theory
The United States Theory was that if one nation fell to communism, the countries around it would fall to communism. Through multiple wars like the Vietnam War, and the Korean War were attempts to prevent communism from spreading. At home we pushed fear into the minds of our citizens to realize the danger's of communism. Propaganda like the cartoon showed above were ways to promote anti-communism in the United States and make us eager to join Wars to prevent the spread of communism.

Important Leaders
Leaders like Presidents starting with Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, and civil rights activists like Martin Luther King Junior and Rosa Parks were all very influential to the cold war time period. The Presidents above contributed by containing communism, protecting the United States from a Nuclear War, and other great Civil Right legislation to create a more equal society.
